End of Term Message from Our Headteacher plus Idsall Voice Available
At the time of writing this article the school is at the start of activities week and also in the middle of major refurbishment. Students are involved in a huge range of enrichment activities this week that include sports days, science. technology, Yr10 work experience, sixth form employer interviews, Yr9 Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, Yr7 residential to Plas Caerdeon and visits to various leisure venues on Thursday.
Following a successful bid to the Government we were granted £1,000,000 to carry out improvement works around the school focusing mainly on new roofing and windows and internal refurbishment. We have planned for all the work to be completed before we come back in September but it obviously means the school will be a hive of activity during the Summer holidays to make this possible.
We have five members of staff who are leaving us this week who have worked at Idsall for a combined time of over 100 years! Lindsay Sherwin retires after 31 years of outstanding English teaching and more recently outstanding leadership to the English department, Graham Coates retires after 28 years of inspiring history students from Yr7 right through to AS and A level, Louise Dixon leaves us to move to France after 14 years as an outstanding teacher of MFL as well as latterly a Learning Manager, Dom Bradburne is joining Oswestry school after 12 years of outstanding teaching and sports development and finally Mrs Beak who retires as my PA ,after 26 years sterling service to everybody involved with Idsall. For lots of parents she will have been the calm, soothing voice that greeted you when you phoned into school and for many students she was the lady who gave out spare ties first thing in the morning to those who had ‘forgotten’ their own. We wish them all well for the future and I would like to publicly acknowledge the hugely positive impact they have had on so many young people .
I would like to thank all parents for the way you have engaged with our new on line parents evening booking system. Overall attendance at parents evenings has increased by 10% this year.
I would like to wish everybody a well deserved Summer break and I look forward to the start of the Autumn term in our newly refurbished school.
Students will be given a copy of the Summer 2016 edition of the Idsall Voice on their last day of term and it can also be dowloaded below or from our Newsletter page on the website. We hope you enjoy.
