Parents' Guide to Education in Shropshire

The school’s admissions policy is operated by the Shropshire Council, which is the Admissions Authority for all Community and Controlled Schools within Shropshire.  Our conversion to Academy status has not changed this policy in any way. Full details of the policy, together with information about arrangements for admission, are set out in the ‘Parents’ Guide to Education in Shropshire’.  Copies of this booklet are held for reference in school and in local libraries and are available on request from the Admissions Team, Children and Young People’s Services Directorate, The Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY2 6ND

Parents of Year 6 children living in Shropshire will be required in the autumn term prior to the school year of transfer from primary to secondary school to complete an LEA application form stating preferences for up to three schools.  The closing date for applications is 31 October and allocation letters will be sent to parents at the beginning of March.  If there are more applications for places than are available within the admission limit, then priority will be give as follows:

  1. Looked after children and children with special educational needs
  2. Children living within the defined catchment area
  3. Children living outside the defined catchment area

Further detail about how these criteria are applied may be found in the Parents' Guide to Education in Shropshire (website www.shropshire.gov.uk).

Parents living outside the Shropshire Education Authority may apply for places at Idsall School, but should do so through their own Local Education Authority by indicating a preference for Idsall School on the local admissions form.  The application will be passed on to Shropshire LEA.  If the Shropshire LEA Admissions Team is unable to offer a place at Idsall School, the home LEA will be informed so that consideration can be given to the other preferences.

Parents are advised to read the “Parents’ Guide” for full details about the admissions process administered by the Council’s Admissions Team.  Any specific requests for information on admissions should be directed to the Admissions Team by telephoning 01743 254331.

When families move into the area after the Year 6 transfer stage and require a place for their child, they should contact the Admissions Team as above for advice.

Idsall School has an Open Day each year when families are invited to visit the school. The Headteacher is pleased to welcome visitors by appointment at other times while the school is open. Please contact the school for further details.
