Idsall's newly constructed Skills Centre is a fantastic addition to the facilities on offer at Idsall School and enables us to offer work related, practical courses, giving qualifications that are recognised in the working environment. The courses present interesting and challenging opportunities for a number of practically mind students. All the courses are open to both girls and boys.
The UK construction industry employs over two million people. Skills gaps mean that opportunities exist for many highly skilled support workers as well as for those directly involved in building. The BTEC Level 2 First Certificate and Diploma in Construction are designed to introduce learners to working in the sector or prepare them for further study, such as a BTEC National qualification or an appropriate NVQ. Students learn skills in carpentry & joinery, bricklaying and painting & decorating and are assessed at Idsall using both written and practical tests and continually assessed project work.
The qualifications are primarily designed to engage and motivate 14-19 year olds who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry. The qualifications' combination of mandatory and optional units provides learners with the flexibility of achieving and progressing in small manageable steps. Offering Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 VRQ.

Diploma in Hairdressing
Another vocational course on offer is in Hairdressing and takes place at Oldbury Wells in Bridgnorth. It is aimed at students who may be interested in a career in the hairdressing industry. It is a practical skills based course that will provide students with a nationally recognised qualification when completed. Students learn hairdressing theory alongside lots of practical hairdressing. This may include methods and techniques relating to brushing, combing, shampooing, conditioning, dressing out, styling, blow drying, neutralising, selling salon services, reception, consultation, bleaching and colouring. This NVQ Level 1 is based on a salon assistant’s role and includes practical assessment, oral assessment, written assessment and portfolio building.
